Typesetting

We can typeset any newspaper and handle everything from ad design, to scanning, to output. We do not typeset invitations . . . Newspapers are our specialty, it's all we do! Call us at (215)535-4274 and ask for Dan for more information on typesetting your job.

Software

We offer typesetting and design on both Macintosh and PC platforms. We support Quark 3.3x, Corel Draw 4-7, Abode Photoshop 4, and many other industry standards.

Output

We offer laser printer and imagesetter output. Our high resolution laser printers can output 11" x 17" pages at 1200 dpi. Our imagesetter can output to photographic paper or film negative. The maximum printable area is 16.9" x 40". Imagesetter output is very crisp with resolutions up to 2540 dpi.

Newsprint Specs

Newsprint is very porous and that causes the ink to spread. This effect is known as dot gain. Typical newspapers have a dot gain between 15 and 35 percent. For example, if the dot gain is 30 percent, a 50 percent black screen will look like an 80 percent black screen when printed. That is why pictures in the newspaper aren't as crisp as a magazine. Pictures, which are halftones, are limited to an 85 line per inch screen. If you use a higher screen, dot gain increases unpredictably.
