The Northeast News Gleaner (originally named Frankford News Gleaner)
was founded in 1882 by George W. Henry, who operated the business
from a small second story shop in Frankford. The continuing expansion
of the newspaper coincided with the development of Northeast
Philadelphia. The News Gleaner started editions in many of the new,
bustling post-World War II neighborhoods of the Northeast. In 1972,
the firm built a modern facility in Frankford, which was highlighted
by the use of off-set printing presses. The newspapers continued their
expansion into more communities in the Northeast.
The News Gleaner recently acquired the Olney Times and the Northeast Breeze.
Today, the Northeast News Gleaner, the oldest community newspaper in the region,
boasts six weekly editions, the Olney Times, and the Northeast Breeze
with a combined circulation of over 147,000.
Its printing abilities have been enhanced to produce full-color, which
makes the firm one of the area's busiest producers of most
publications from newspapers to supermarket ad sheets.
