USING PERSI
The Periodical Source Index,
or PERSI, is
the largest and most widely-used index of genealogical and historical
periodical articles in the world. PERSI began as a
project of
the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The
goal was to
gather all genealogical periodicals, and index them. The growing
database is the largest of its kind, containing nearly 2 million
references to helpful genealogy articles. Thirty percent of all printed
genealogical records are found in PERSI articles.
PERSI includes articles from almost
5000 different periodicals, and is arranged in several index
arrangements:
Locality,
Surname, and Record type
There are four ways to access the PERSI index:
1. They are found in most larger libraries in book form, 32 volumes,
indexed by YEAR.
2. Available on microfiche from LDS (research
guide). Fiche
3. Available on CDs, updated annually, from Ancestry or EBay.
4. Available from Ancestry with subscription in a limited form.
